So - welcome to Dragon Wars ASG people.

If you're interested, sign up here.

I'll put some more detail down in a bit - when it’s not 5:30am and I'm trying to remember what I was supposed to do - (this being it of course). Well, although this isn't the best intro I've ever written, um... it may very well be the worse!

So! Without further ado -

Welcome to the Stereotype Breaking game, where you will see every stereotype known to gamer (or at least most of them), gross exaggerations completely blown out of proportion and utterly ridiculous - er what was I saying? Right anyway, this is a tongue-in-cheek game that deliberately pokes fun at everyone and everything, especially itself. The point is to have fun and not to take things seriously.

So in the interests of using every cliché and blatantly used stereotype in the book, you shall all start in a tavern.

I suppose you good people would like some setting info. Well. *thinks quickly*. Dragon Wars is set in an ordinary, bog standard, run of the mill medieval fantasy setting. (Yes, that will work). Naturally, given the nature of the game & her name, (yes, this game is now officially a "her". The OOC chat can be her brother or something in the interests of equality. No doubt I shall wonder when I come back to read this why I keep going off on tangents and wondering what the heck I was thinking when I come back to read this, but that is besides the point.), there are lots of dragons and magic in this setting.

The only difficulty is - well, Dragons possess all the magic, and dragons are well, haughty, aloof and generally don't like to associate with lesser mortals. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, dragons are well - close to immortal. There are a lot of them, mostly lesser dragons too, but the *thinks of a number* Five Greater Dragons are pretty much immortal and live up to ten thousand years. Give or take a couple of centuries. The lesser dragons can live anywhere from up to five centuries to five thousand years. A few even manage seven thousand five hundred if they're lucky. So yes, they live a long time.

To the common-man, they may as well be immortal and they may as well be gods. For you see, in this setting gods don't exist. (so much for it being bog standard, eh?) Saints exist, and they are pretty much your classic paladin-knight in shining armour mounted on a white steel-when not inside a chapel meditating and being enlightened.

Dragons aren’t good, bad, evil or ugly as a species, no more so than mankind is. However, despite being quite common and warring with one another in their attempt to dominate the world from their rival kin, they aren’t often seen. Or at least, they weren’t.

Until now. Two weeks ago, several dragon sightings were reported. Usually, this meant trouble and anyone who was sane locked up their maiden daughters (or sons depending on the dragon) and commissioned the nearest knight to go and save their progeny from the rampaging kidnapping dragon. Usually sighted in groups of one, the knight would challenge the dragon and one of them would return victorious – or not, as the case may be. And so the next knight would go along. Or return home and be blessed and loved and gifted with gold to last the rest of the month.

And so it had gone on this way for time out of mind. But two weeks ago, dragons were being sighted in as many as seven and attacking one another outright in the skies.

So where do you come in? That’s an excellent question for you to address in your biographies. I’m sure there will be a call for all the would be heroes in the land – from peasant farmers, to run aways, to broody dark swordsman with vendettas who have trained in secret and isolation for years, and archers that are so renowned no one knows of them, and goodness knows who else.

As far as races go… well, I expect all manner of beings who really shouldn’t exist somehow inhabit this world and all sorts of angelic and demonic planes which also shouldn’t exist have portals popping up occasionally and then of course, there are magical experiments gone awry… …So an assorted party of utter and absolute horrors (or freaks) would not be out of place for the nature of this game. So anything goes really – just try to tone it down on the tentacles, if you please. Do remember that IWs is still a PG13 setting. But that aside, feel free to have 16ths of a bloodline.

One tiny rule that I would ask you all to observe though – no draconic blood of any sort, no draconic pets, steeds or other dragon influences, with the exception of dragon slaying equipment, but even that I would ask you to not go overboard with. Unless you enjoy being a target .
Although I said only dragons have magic, I’m sure you can all have sorcerous(sp?) blood which results from some obscure parentage if you so desire. Just that the rest of the world won’t possess it .

Um… any questions? Just drop me a line or post here. Ah! One last thing - systems. Before we get this game started, does anyone actually want to use one? It will restrict creativity I think, at least, in this game and so, I'm tempted to use a freeform with the DM having the final say. Any objections/counter proposals?

If anyone has a better idea or suggestion or the like, then do feel free to post it - even if you're not intent on playing.

Cheers,

CD.

I don't particularly see the need for any systems. Freeform sounds fine.

And now for my n00b question: would this be the proper place to introduce my character, or in the other thread. You see, I have not been involved in this type of game before (at least not extensively) so I kind of...need my hand held through the beginning steps.

If you would like, you can introduce him in both threads. A character sheet of sorts would be a good idea, if only to keep track of stuff.

That way, you can describe your character and whatnot here, and also in the other thread. I find that having a reference is always a good idea. Of course, others may disagree. *shrug*. I don't particually mind either way. After all, as stated above, this isnt't exactly a serious game.

What did you have in mind?

I have an idea for an Ogre Thespian. I have a basic introduction all written up about him, which I can post wherever. I'm not sure what you need on the character sheet though.

Well, basic stats - such as height, weight, age, hair colour, eye colour - a name, perhaps a small inventory and a basic description of said character?

But the concept sounds good

Alright. Name's Athurgis Twinkletoes
Height: 8'3" (approx 247.5 cm)
Weight: 312 lbs (141.8 kgs) - hey, he's a lean ballerina!
Hair Colour: Dyed blonde (dreadlocks)
Eye colour: A deep shade of blue.
Inventory: Ballet slippers, costumes of a damsel and a wolf, as well as tattered leather leggings, a stiletto and a fake knife (one of those ones that retracts inside itself.)

Backstory:
Athugris Twinkletoes was an ogre by birth. Of a mountainous, bloodthirsty clan, he always felt himself pulled in another direction - dance. Having been exposed at a young age to a classical rendition of the great musical "Stanislav and the Hellhound that cried Wyvern," he found himself drawn to the power of the theatre and dance. He also experimented extensively with makeup, and took pride in his locks, which he dyed blonde and wrapped into dreadlocks, and his teeth, glistening and sharpened to points. He found himself resenting the unsophisticated nature of his fellow ogres, and left to pursue his ultimate dream: to become a renowned and recognized armour model and actor.

However, many obstacles stood in his way, not the least of which was the slightly inhibiting habit of a group of any size to flee in terror at the mere sight of him. Even when he wore his "damsel" costume, it was impossible for him to keep together an audience of any kind. Also, his height prevented him from the use of many theatres. Only able to find work in the carnivals as a target for being pelted with rotten fruit, he turned to adventuring to feed him through the lean times in work. Soon, he reckoned, there would be a boon for ogre actors, and he would ride the wave.

EDIT - I figured pink would be the best color for this dude.

Only if you can stretch to posting oh, maybe once a week

Edit: And preferably more than two lines per post too, DAM. But we'll see. Upon reflection, before I give any promises, I'd like to discuss your character with you and how you intend to roleplay him/her/it. If that's okay?

Zarn, the barbarian

Hailing from a ferocious tribe of warriors in the far northern lands, Zarn is far from ferocious. He was thrown out by his parents at the age of six, because he did not show any inclination to fight as all the children of his age of the tribe did.

The problem with Zarn was not that he had no inclination to fight, but at the slightest drop of blood he saw he almost fainted. He had a very bad case of blood phobia. A few members of the tribe had still agreed to train him and he had some pretty decent training when he finally left the tribe at the age of seventeen.

But then tragedy struck. One night, while he slept not far from a road, he was visited by a vampire. If being a blood-phobic barbarian had not been a curse enough, after that fateful night Zarn was a blood-phobic vampiric barbarian. He lusted for blood, but dreaded each and every moment that he needed to drink it.

OOC: more possibly to come.
