American President George W.Bush has signed a record 400 billion dollar defence bill. Some of the cash will go into the pockets of US troops who are set to receive a 4 percent pay rise. But controversially, a certain amount will also go towards funding research into new types of nuclear weapons. Just hours after the announcement, Bush addressed hundreds of troops at a base in Colorado: "Democracy will succeed because the USA will not be intimidated by a bunch of thugs," he told the cheering crowd.

There are currently around 140,000 troops deployed in Iraq. They have faced heavy losses as guerillas become increasingly organised. Meanwhile, one of the largest television news networks in the Middle East has agreed to stop reporting from Iraq. The president of the Iraqi Governing Council, Jalal Talabani, accused al-Arabiya of inciting murder after it broadcast an audio tape purported to carry the voice of Saddam Hussein. He threatened to imprison journalists if they didn't comply. The network reportedly called the move "blatant censorship".

Bush is simply akin to Zsa Zsa at Macey's during Christmas with a Platinum card which doesn't belong to her. He's profligate to the extreme. Of course, he's never really had to earn a dollar of his own, so why would we expect him to know fiscal constraint?

Hardly blatent censorship. Every western democracy has laws making it illeagel to broadcast items that incite violence. This is not a free speach issue It's a public sefety issue.

Actually, it is a free speech issue. But freedom of speech is not absolute. Reasonable limits may be placed on it.

What a waste of tax payers dollars. The world is trying to get away from nukes and WoMD yet W spends more on creating them. Would it not be better to use that money to try and purge world of nukes and keep them out of the hands of terrorist. My tax dollars has been wasted in many other ways but I am glad it isn't creating WoMD (at least that I know about).

Are you sure of this? Spending more money on new types of nukes i mean? If so that would be one of the largest missappropriation of resources I've heard about in a LONG time.

Nuclear weapons are one of the most expensive things in the world to research and create...and they are fundamentally useless. Needed as a deterant, in practicallity they could never be used in an war we could realistically get into.

"President Bush, I hear there is a small terrist cell in NYC"

"Are you serious?! Well, they aren't getting away from me this time...NUKE NEW YORK"

I love it...480 billion dollar deficit with almost 7 Trillion dollars in debt, and we're spending money on essentially useless items designed to destroy the world.

The new nukes types they are working on are extremely low yeild weapons, earth pentrating weapons (bunker busters), and most distrubing pure hydrogen nukes. The reason the pure hydrogen nukes are distrubing is that it would allow the use if nukes without all that pesky radioactive fallout in theory. Making there use more 'palatable' to those in the mood.

Just how much of the 400 billion is going to be spent on this nuke program?

Wow...thats one of the greatest and disturbing mixed curses...err..I mean..blessings of all times. The good news is, nuclear weopons would no longer cause radiation fallout...the bad news is we'll be much more inclined to use them. More to the point, just cause we have 'clean' nukes sure as hell doesn't mean the other guy will. What a crazy world we live in.

A follow up article:
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/20...269115-ap.html

I thought this may happen.
Looks like Russia may now review its own nuclear doctrine.

Thanks to Bush being a ______ (insert bad name, name describing low intelligent life-form, or name associated with insanity or disgust)!!!!!! Russia may develop similar weapons or keep its existing stockpile as it was originally disarming. Baluyevsky, wouldn't say whether Russia would work to develop similar weapons, but said that it would hold onto its stockpiles of tactical nuclear weapons. Someone should tell Bush that the cold war is over. Building Nukes for terrorist are irrelevant since most live amongst us.

"We are witnessing that nuclear weapons, which have served as a political deterrent, are being transformed into a battlefield instrument," Baluyevsky said. "

It's very scary, extremely scary.

What is the goal of the current US administration? To me it seemes to be one of global destabilization.
