You know where to direct your complaints, Rokenn.. this isn't the way
I'd say it was locked because of the ban on religious topics...

I know it sucks to have a topic with an interesting discussion closed on you, but do you think you'll get farther with an angry thread than with a calm private message?

Well, I notice a trend. Rokenn has a thread he started closed without comment almost routinely. I can see why he is getting frustrated.

Your suspicions are correct. Religion was the reason. Sorry you feel pissed off Rokken, but for the good of CE as a whole, it had to be locked.

Posting here is a privilege, not a right. Hence, any religious threads or topics started will be locked/deleted without notice.
Seems clear enough for me.

The thread was about misguided people thinking that changing the evolution to 'biological changes over time' is a good idea not about religion.

Also the other thread had to do with the free spending habits of Bush. Again not a religious topic. And in that thread Ziroc even felt he had to edit the title of thread as well.

Well, Ziroc IS the owner of the site and has commented numerous times in the past that there is not a "right of free speech" here. He holds the right to edit, delete, or lock any threads for content he feels is unsuitable at any time and without explanation.

I agree it is very frustrating to have a thread locked without explanation. If nothing else, an explanation would at least let all the members know exactly WHY a thread needed to be locked and could prevent the same "mistake" from being made by others in future threads.

Still, Ziroc is usually pretty good about answering PM's - especially when it involves a member complaint.

I was sorry to see the Evolution thread get locked also. I thought the discussion was going along pretty good. Unfortunately, any discussion of evolution will eventually bring religion into the discussion. Still, I felt the topic was being handled maturely and think that it could have developed without turning into a flamefest or not even necessarily a discussion of religion vs evolution.

But right now, religion is a taboo subject and ANY mention of it is likely to get a thread closed down. Sad, but true.

G'day Rokenn. The reason your thread was locked has been explained to you earlier in this thread. You may feel hard done by, that's fair enough. It's also Larry's right to lock a thread if he feels it contravenes our moratorium on religion, which he did in this case. Anything remotely related to religion or which in our opinion could lead to religion is fair game at this point - you guys may disagree, but you'll all just have to accept that at this point. We don't usually lock threads without comment purely to piss people off - there's usually a good reason why we do things.

As for this thread on locking threads without comment, this is usually left to the individual moderator. There's no hard and fast rule or obligation to explain why a thread was locked, though most of us do this as a courtesy and a favour to the thread starter and also to avoid the kind of inquiring/wondering/angry/frustrated type of post that you've just posted now. But it's not a specific protocol - for example, Ziroc frequently locks posts without comment, which is totally his right - he owns the place. As I said, it's up to the individual moderator how they choose to do it - if a comment is provided it's there as a favour, not an entitlement. As for your two (?) locked threads, you may wish to take this up with Ziroc directly as I think he was responsible for locking them without comment.

Hope this provides you with some sort of clarity.

There's this little car that IW mods and the admin share and drive around. It makes a loud-pitching "whinging" noise as it goes by. It's called a
FIAT
and you should get over it.

Hey FIATs suck! My first car was a FIAT Strada and it was a POS.

BTW FIAT stands for: Fix It Again Tony!
