I don't think this discussion belongs in a family forum.

Let me ask a better question. Have you ever (1) learned anything about yourself or (2) had your opinion changed about anything based on what you've seen in the CE Forum, Yorick?

Of course!!
If someone were to sell bananas with zippers, he or she could open up a whole new corner in the consumer-market! Think about all the people who are too lazy to peel bananas. You know how some bananas open really easily, but others need just a small knick in the neck with a sharp knife or pointy nail. Well, that is a good reason for many people not even to bother with bananas. Think of the ease with which they can now indulge in that delectable fruit! Then there are the people who lost their fingers in horrible accidents - they can never peel an ordinary banana, but a banana with a zipper! Now that would be a GODsend to them! They can hold it between their stumps and use their teeth to open the zipper! And then there's the people with zipper fetishes for whom the act of peeling a banana will become an exquisitely erotic event. And let's not even go into the eroticism of what can be done after that! Of course there will always be silly believers who think foodstuffs should not be manipulated or modified, and to whom a zippered banana is a blasphemy against nature. A banana was created the way it is for a holy purpose, and making changes in it is just WRONG. But I suppose there will always be disagreement on such an important subject. I think that placing zippers on banana's (unless engineered) would be cost ineffective, it would make consumption of the fruit much easier, and faster, but the exhorbitant prices on it would inhibit who could actually consume them.
and of course we know that US genetically engineered produce is not generally welcome in most foreign countries. |
