Read before you decide though..

The Singapore Government has announced that Van Tuong Nguyen is scheduled to be hanged on 2 December, according to a letter his family received on 17 November. Executions are usually carried out at dawn.

The President had rejected an appeal for clemency on 21 October.

Van Tuong Nguyen was arrested at Singapore's Changi airport in transit from Cambodia to Australia in December 2002, after police found a package of heroin strapped to his back and a second package in his backpack.

Van Tuong Nguyen was sentenced to death for importing 396.2 grams of heroin into Singapore. He was convicted under the Misuse of Drugs Act, which carries a mandatory death sentence for anyone found guilty of trafficking in more than 15 grams of heroin.

I voted yes.

Do I agree with capital punishment - NO.

Do I agree with the sovereign right of a country to make laws to govern its citizens by - YES.

Did the bloke know the clear risks in doing what he did - YES.

Did he get caught red handed without a shadow of a doubt with packets of heroin strapped to him - YES.

Case closed. Should we pour in time and money into trying to get the sentance downgraded to life in prison - YES, but if the government of Singapore sticks to its principles then we have no other option than to accept it.

Does that make the taking of human life right - NO, but this guy was no innocent baby trying to put his hand in ther fire - he knew what was in store for himself.

I voted no. While he has definately committed a crime, I don't think the punishment is in proportion to said crime.

I don't believe in capital punishment except under the most extreme circumstances - and even then, no one person has the right to give that order. This case is hardly extreme. Nguyen was simply a mule. Killing him is like trying to stop the postal service by deflating the posty's scooter tyres. (Less effective than that even - posties have a union.)

Capital punishment is the best deterrant? It ain't working. There are endless expendable mules in many countries that can be coerced into traffiking. Maybe if the same penalty applied to those at the top... And just how do they catch those at the top? They're certainly not asking for co-operation from those further down the ladder. Nguyen spent his entire prison sentence aiding investigators from both countries. He spilled his guts - and gets rewarded with death. Nice work guys. Real smart.

Hanging someone over a few grams of dope is barbaric and not of this day and age. Countries with laws like that should be excluded from the international community until they can be reasoned with.

Well maybe a 60 year in prison is better than death, at least then you can still enjoy life. Just hanging somebody is like.. Killing your pet dog or cat.
