I have an old Diamond Viper 770 32 MB Video card that I want to upgrade. It has given me flawless service over the years. However, I do need to upgrade to a more powerful card. I was thinking of seriously getting a 128 MB video card but I wasn't sure if my system specs could handle it, i.e., too much card and not enough CPU muscle. Here are my specs: 1.2 P3, 512 megs of 133MHz RAM, Asus TUSL2-C AGP 4x compatible motherboard. Would I be bottlenecking the 128 MB card had a core clock of 250 MHz? Would I be better off with a 64 MB card and if so what has been your experience in handling the spec demands of present games? I figured if the 128 MB cards are out there then by all means get one that doesn't break the bank, but if my set-up isn't powerful enough for a 128 then I'd go with a 64 MB card. What do you think? Whayt is a good 64 MB card? 128 card? Thanks ahead of time.

If you can afford it, go with the 128MB card. You won't have to upgrade as soon as you would with a 64MB card. Other than your FSB, your system is fine.

Animal, thanks for the quick reply. What is it about my FSB that might be an issue?

Its not as fast as the modern standards. But for your hardware its fine.
And get the 128Mb card, if you upgrade the rest of your system in future you can use it, and even if you dont youll get more out of it than you will a 64Mb card.

I agree with both Andrewas and Animal - get the best card you can afford; these puppies get obsolete fast. Even if you won't fully use the horsepower now, when you upgrade your core system you won't have to upgrade the video adapter again because it's obsolete.

don't worry about a new card outstripping the rest of your system, it is still the best way to improve game performance. 64 or 128mb makes little difference, in some cases 128 mb versions of cards are slower than 64mb versions of the same card, due to slower memory on them. What is more important is the type of card, cards like gf4ti & radeon 9500/9600 or 9700/9800 are performance cards which will far outstrip the cheaper models like gf4mx & radeon 9000 or 9100....
