So my ISP has a firewall. For some p2p programs I've had to forward the ports so I can actually download stuff at a nice rate. But for other programs I've not had to do this...some MMO's for example will talk on their site about which ports need to be free for it to work yet I never need to forward these ports, I always log on and play and thats that. My question is, is this UPNP taking care of it? And if so how come it doesn't take care of it everytime?

Well, I'm no expert, but I would hazard a guess that your ISP is blocking only those ports that it considers harmful and wouldn't interfere with 'normal' internet use. The ports used in Web browsing and games it can't block because it would make their service unusable for a large number of people. A case can be made for blocking the ports used by p2p software however as it's a nice way to invite a virus or two onto your computer.

So that's probably why you have to forward your ports only for certain software.

If by UPNP you mean universal plug and play, that has nothing to do with it.
